Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi Schools Out on Kangana Ranaut: “Filmmakers Must Be Responsible”
Punjabi artists Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi share their views as filmmakers on Emergency Film leaving a big lesson for Kangana Ranaut.
As Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency faces more controversy, Punjabi stars Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi have shared their thoughts. Both actors feel that filmmakers need to be very careful when making movies about sensitive topics like history and religion. Their opinions come at a time when Emergency, a film directed by and starring Kangana, is being criticized for how it portrays the 1984 Emergency in India.
Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi both believe that filmmakers should act responsibly, especially when their movies could upset people or cause conflict.
Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal, known for his successful films, talked about how important it is to get advice from religious leaders when making movies about sensitive issues. He mentioned his own film, Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di, saying that before releasing the movie, he and his team showed the script to religious authorities at Takht Shri Hazur Sahib to make sure it didn’t offend anyone’s beliefs.
He added,”This helped us ensure the film didn’t hurt anyone’s religious feelings. I think other filmmakers should do the same when dealing with sensitive subjects.”
Gippy’s advice suggests that films like Emergency should take similar steps to avoid upsetting people and starting controversies. He believes that consulting experts or religious leaders could help filmmakers avoid misunderstandings.
Gurpreet Ghuggi, a well-known Punjabi actor and comedian, agreed with Gippy’s views. He further emphasized that filmmakers should not use movies to push their own political or personal ideas. Instead, films should focus on entertaining and educating people in a responsible way.
“We shouldn’t use cinema to promote our own beliefs or agendas,” Ghuggi said. “Filmmaking is a powerful tool, and with that power comes the responsibility to use it wisely.”
Ghuggi also pointed out that while filmmakers have the freedom to tell stories, they must be careful when dealing with sensitive topics. He said that if filmmakers aren’t fully informed or their facts are not accurate, they could unintentionally offend people or mislead them.
“I haven’t seen Emergency yet, but based on the trailers and teasers, it looks like the film might include some content that could upset certain groups,” Ghuggi added.
Both Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi come from an industry that places great value on respect for culture and religion. Their comments reflect the importance of being responsible when making films, especially when those films deal with sensitive issues.
By sharing their own experience with Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di, Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi highlighted how consulting with religious authorities helped them avoid controversy. They believe that filmmakers who take such precautions can release their films without upsetting audiences.
The opinions of Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi add a new perspective to the controversy surrounding Emergency. As respected figures in the film industry, their views show how important it is for filmmakers to balance creative freedom with responsibility. They remind filmmakers that movies have the power to influence people and should be made thoughtfully and carefully.
With the release of Emergency now delayed due to the backlash, the filmmakers might need to consider these concerns as they plan their next steps. But Kangana Ranaut seems in an unstable position to accept the fact file and is against the whole nation to release her film.

In a recent court drama, the Bombay High Court decided not to force the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to quickly release Kangana Ranaut’s eagerly awaited movie Emergency. The film’s co-producers, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, had urgently approached the court on September 4, 2024, asking it to step in because they felt the CBFC was unfairly delaying the certification needed to release the movie.
The court, led by Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, made it clear that they could not pass an immediate order due to a similar case happening in another state. On September 3, 2024, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered the CBFC to consider objections raised by the Jabalpur Sikh Sangat, a group that had issues with the movie and its trailer. Because of this ongoing case, the Bombay High Court decided not to interfere by telling the CBFC to issue the certificate right away.
