Diljit Dosanjh Promotes ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’: A Candid Chat About His Love for Punjab and Future Plans
Diljit Dosanjh is currently engrossed in promoting his highly anticipated film, “Jatt & Juliet 3.” Despite his usual reluctance to engage extensively during media interactions, the renowned Punjabi actor-singer couldn’t conceal his enthusiasm as he kickstarted the Punjab leg of his promotional tour.
“Punjab is my home, and I source my energy from its soil. No matter where I am in the world, Punjab is with me, in my blood,” Diljit Dosanjh passionately shared. Emphasizing his deep connection with “Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat,” the actor discussed his future endeavors, assuring fans that they will see more of him on screen and stage. “I am determined to do one Punjabi film and release an album every year. That’s something substantial for me. I will continue to do everything else, but would never disconnect from Punjab,” Diljit Dosanjh added.
Reflecting on a memorable incident when the doors of a cinema hall in Ludhiana were smashed by an excited audience during the screening of the first “Jatt & Juliet” in 2012, the 40-year-old star reminisced about his penchant for breaking into bhangra at theatres whenever he gets a chance.
Diljit Dosanjh has garnered a devoted fanbase that cherishes his music as much as his acting. In 2020, Diljit Dosanjh became the first Punjabi artist to be featured at Times Square in New York City. Fast forward to 2023, Diljit Dosanjh made history as the first Indian artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Earlier this month, Diljit Dosanjh reached another milestone, becoming the first Punjabi singer to appear on “The Tonight Show.”
When asked about his evolution from being a source of entertainment to an inspirational figure, Diljit Dosanjh reflected, “It comes with time. People say I have become a phenomenon all of a sudden, but miss the fact that I have been working for it for the past 22 years. And when you keep the hard work on, such transitions happen, and you see them yourself,” he explained. Diljit Dosanjh added that he finds “sukoon” (peace) in witnessing the growing international spotlight on Punjab and Punjabis, who are finally gaining the representation they deserve on global platforms.
“It was long overdue. But now, when kids see this happening, they know that they can also do it. And in fact, go way above and beyond this. There is love among people; everything else is just politics,” remarked the singer, known for hits such as “G.O.A.T” and “MoonChild Era.” Discussing his appearance on “The Tonight Show,” Diljit Dosanjh concluded, “We are living in a dream. There is nothing outside its realm. And that’s something, which should drive everyone to dream and aspire big.”
