In a conversation with Mid Day, she opened up about the lingering apprehensions within the film industry regarding her. Also, she emphasizes her hope for normalization and the decline in the power of online trolls.
Rhea Chakraborty on fear in the eyes of makers
Addressing the topic of her limited work opportunities in Bollywood she mentions the perceived hesitancy in hiring her. Stating further, Rhea acknowledged there is an existence of residual fear but expressed optimism about its eventual dissipation. “I feel there is still a sense of fear on that front, but I’m hoping it normalizes soon. A lot of it has calmed down, and honestly, the power of trolls is gone,” she remarked.
Despite enduring severe trolling and becoming one of the most targeted figures on social media, Rhea acknowledged the kindness she encountered during trying times. She expressed gratitude for the support she received from friends, both emotionally and financially, stating, “I had friends rally behind me, help me and my family emotionally and monetarily. That gave me strength.”
Sushant Singh Rajput death allegations
Reflecting on the tumultuous events following the accusations levelled against her in 2020, regarding her alleged involvement in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide. The interview touched upon the hardships Rhea faced following allegations of involvement in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide, leading to intense public scrutiny and her subsequent arrest by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drug-related case. Reflecting on the derogatory names she had been called, Rhea surprisingly embraced the term ‘chudail’ (witch), interpreting it as a symbol of defiance against patriarchal norms. “Maybe I am that person,” she asserted, reflecting on her resilience against societal expectations.
Embracing the term with a sense of empowerment, Rhea offered a thought-provoking perspective on the historical context of the word ‘witch.’ “I kinda like the name chudail (witch). Back in the day, who was a witch? A witch was a woman who did not subscribe to patriarchal society, had her own way or had her own opinion which was against the popular opinion of men and patriarchal societies back then. Maybe I am that person,” she asserted.
