Detentions included prominent local figures such as Lakha Sidhana, Gursewak Singh Jwaharke, and influencers like Rattandeep Singh Dhaliwal.
The controversy deepened with the detainment of leaders such as Avtar Singh Mithari, and Kaka Singh Kotra, and YouTubers like Parvinder Singh Jhota, raising concerns about a targeted crackdown on individuals associated with Sidhu’s outspoken critiques.
Sangrur witnessed a day of turmoil as groups en route to the planned protest faced roadblocks, prompting live-streamed protests. Chief Minister Channi’s video depicting police blocking his car added fuel to the controversy, and Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Surjit Singh Phul initiated a dharna after being stopped.
Bhana Sidhu’s substantial social media presence, boasting over 1 million followers, has been a catalyst for exposing alleged wrongdoing. Notably, he confronted immigration agents through video calls, pressuring them to return money to victims of fraudulent visa activities.
The unfolding events underscore the intricate dynamics between social media, politics, and activism in the contemporary landscape. The controversy surrounding Bhana Sidhu’s arrest raises critical questions about the challenges faced by influencers who utilize their online platforms to expose perceived injustices.
