Gippy Grewal reveals getting and Turning Down ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ Script Offer amid Aamir Khan’s perfectionist demands

Gippy Grewal is a name that resonates deeply with fans of Punjabi cinema. Known for his infectious energy, powerful performances, and catchy songs, Gippy has carved out a niche for himself in the Pollywood industry. But what many people don’t realize is that Gippy is not just a talented singer and actor—he’s also an accomplished scriptwriter. With hits like Ardaas and Manje Bistre to his credit, he’s proven his ability to create stories that truly connect with audiences.

However, during the recent trailer launch of his latest project, Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di, Gippy shared a story that caught everyone off guard. He revealed that he was once offered the chance to write the script for Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. For most, this would seem like a dream opportunity. But Gippy, in his usual down-to-earth manner, politely declined the offer.

Why? It all came down to a matter of style and instinct. Gippy explained that Aamir Khan is known for being a perfectionist, someone who takes his time to fine-tune every detail of a project. Gippy, on the other hand, prefers a more streamlined approach, often spending just 4 to 5 hours working on a script. Recognizing that these differences could lead to challenges, he decided it was best to step away. In fact, he even went so far as to recommend other writers who might be better suited to Aamir’s working style.

At the time, some might have wondered if Gippy was passing up a golden opportunity. But in hindsight, his decision looks like a masterstroke. Despite the immense effort and star power behind it, Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t perform well at the box office. The film’s disappointing run led Aamir Khan to take full responsibility for the failure, even prompting him to take an indefinite break from his career.

Looking back, Gippy’s decision to walk away from the project feels like the right call. If he had taken on the scriptwriting duties, the film’s failure could have been a major setback for him. Instead, by trusting his gut and staying true to his own creative process, Gippy protected his reputation and continued to build on his successes.

One of those successes is the Ardaas series, a franchise that has touched the hearts of Punjabi audiences around the world. The first Ardaas film, released in 2016, was a powerful exploration of social issues and cultural values. Despite being banned in India by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the film resonated deeply with the Punjabi diaspora, turning it into a sleeper hit and paving the way for more.

Following the success of Ardaas, Gippy continued to pour his heart into the series. The second film, Ardaas Karaan, released in 2019, built on the themes of family, faith, and forgiveness, earning even more praise from audiences and critics alike. Now, with Ardaas Sarbat De Bhale Di set to release on September 13th, 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this emotional and heartfelt series.

Gippy Grewal’s story is a reminder that sometimes, the best decisions are the ones that align with who we truly are. By staying true to his own creative instincts and knowing when to say “no,” Gippy has not only protected his career but also continued to deliver stories that resonate on a deep, emotional level.
