The Trail review and Ratings

The web series The Trail, an Indian version of the American Television series The Good Wife complete review of 8 episodes.

The Trail: Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha is a legal drama divided into eight episodes. It brings the struggle period of a victim wife of a corrupt Judge who ends up in a job after his arrest due to the S*x scandal. She starts as a junior lawyer to make ends meet along with tolerating all the media drama over the matter.

It is available on Disney Plus Hotstar from 14 July Onwards. All the episodes aired together. And if you have a subscription then worth watching it.

Kajol’s second OTT release The Trail depicts the true picture of life with the complexity of relations. As the name extension mentions it shows life from three angles love, the legal system and the ditch. It focuses on the reality of life that favours people on circumstances and brings up the fact that truth does not always win. Rather situation presented as truth wins.

As always, Kajol is superb in her character. She is natural enough to push viewers to scroll to the next chapter. The use of Phrases and poetic versions depicts the true picture of our lives. Truly an entertainer that co-relates to the life of strugglers beyond their class existence.

Rather than calling it a feminist, we would call The Trail, an anti-male bunch of stories put together to make the show more sensitive and female-oriented. All eight chapters carry women in a victim box and fighting for things. This brings a little negativity towards the show.

Apart from Kajol who plays the main lead and carries the full load of the series, Jisshu Sengupta, Ally Khan, Kubbra Sait and Gaurav Pandey play the supporting cast for all the eight episodes. There is a stretch in the episodes with some non-required screenplay. Rest it is a series worth watching.

Plot of the series

Rajiv Sengupta is exposed in a S*x Scandal. He was an Additional Judge and took these favours as bribes. He ends up in jail leaving his family in the trauma with every amenity sealed. His wife Noyonika Sengupta was a law student and became a housewife for her family. But now she is back to work as a junior assistant working for a firm he ex, Vishal owns jointly.

While on her six months probation she competes with another young candidate to win at the end. She helped the firm resolve many cases and kept fighting for her family. While she is on her job struggling between court, office and Home. The audience witnesses the legal system works for proof and not reality. Further, it also brings the life of those in the position of accused. How the world treats them against the fact that they are innocent unless proven guilty.

In the first case, Noyonika successfully gets her client free of charge. She was a girlfriend of a big cricketer who committed suicide. And she was charged with abetment. But her solicitor brings the fact to the world and legal system that his coach introduced some supplement to his body for extra energy. And they were supposed to get flushed out after 12 days. But he gets an early medical for his position. Hence, he found an easy solution to the harassment and ended his life by jumping over the building.

Next, Her daughter’s schoolmate and a good friend’s son get arrested from school with murder charges. As he and his friend ( with some anger issues) go to the school in the nighttime to break Principal’s office and take back his phone. The next day the guard of the school is found dead. Noyonika helps him get free from the case.

In another case, they fight for a woman with pregnancy complications against an insurance company that refuses to cover the surgery charges. She also resolves a case against a telecom company that misused their labor and three labourers died because of an accident. Though the firm Noyonika works firm they get good Alimony in return.

In her first case, a girl attempts suicide as one media personnel kept calling her a murderer. Hence, Noyonika sues him with a defamation notice. All her work continues and her husband gets a bail and finally comes back home in the fifth episode. The whole family accepts him back else than his wife who is not prepared to trust him again in life.

Finally, when her husband’s solicitor backs off, she makes her own firm works to stand legally for her husband. By this time, her ex Vishal is again in love with her and finding a moment to disclose it to her. Meanwhile, her husband’s politician friend who backed him all the hard time wanted Rajiv to whitewash his image and join politics.

But Noyonika is against any drama and such plans. She just wants her kids’ father and a simple life. No more luxury. Finally, her husband convinces her that he wants to apologise to her in front of the media. And again he ditches her and announces his political career after that apology.

On the other hand, her ex finally gets the courage and proposes her giving a condition that if she refuses she just has to delete the audio and they will never talk about it again. But while she is stuck on stage with her husband, that politician friend listens to it and deletes it to close the chapter.

A curious ending means the success of the series will decide if the second season will come or not.

Ratings

An average entertainer will win hearts because Kajol presents Noyonika. Her existence completely changes the reach the series will get. But her acting skills bring life to the character. While watching her in one character it’s tough to relate her to any of her own characters. She is a complete justice to the role, the series, and the question of why the audience should watch it.

We give The Trail a 3.5 rating and recommend audience to watch it.
