The Archies movie is no less than a Struggle with Starkids Debut. Deets of the complete review inside.
The Archies unfold a tale centred around Agastya Nanda’s portrayal of Archie, a singer entangled in a perplexing love triangle involving Veronica (Suhana Khan) and Betty (Khushi Kapoor) within an Anglo-Indian community residing in Riverdale. The narrative pivots around the emotional connection to Green Park, facing potential redevelopment into a five-star hotel, sparking a probable standoff from the community.
The film’s standout issue lies in the performances of Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor, who appear to lack polish and depth in their acting. Their portrayal exudes a laid-back attitude, with their performances bordering on laziness, creating evident flaws within their character representations.
Agastya Nanda’s debut as Archie similarly falls short, rendering his performance desultory and lacking emotional depth. Vedang Raina as Reggie and Yuvraj Menda as Dilton manage to salvage a standout sequence, elevating their respective characters. However, while visually appealing, Dot’s portrayal of Ethel fades into forgettable territory.
Zoya Akhtar’s directorial vision seems compromised, steering away from her potential by focusing excessively on showcasing star-kids. The collective struggle with acting skills amongst the cast makes it challenging to engage viewers in the storyline. Launching multiple star kids simultaneously without the guidance of seasoned artists seems unfair, highlighting a lack of mentorship for these young talents.
Premiere of The Archies
The film’s allure, predominantly fueled by the star-studded public screenings, may attract fans and followers of the big stars initially. However, ‘The Archies’ faces the potential struggle of retaining audience attention. The performances may deter viewers, leading to an anticipated drop-off rate among audiences who might find it challenging to complete the film.
While wishing the debutants – Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Agastya Panday, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda, and Dot – all the best for their OTT debut in ‘The Archies,’ the film grapples with the shortcomings of a collective debut amidst star kids lacking refinement in their craft.
We skip rating The Archies and do not recommend customers to watch it unless bored anyway.
