Former Bollywood actress and NRI Tanushree Dutta Lodges an FIR Against Rakhi Sawant, Alleging “She Caused Significant Harm to My Reputation and Professional Journey in the Entertainment Industry”
Tanushree Dutta has recently lodged an FIR against Rakhi Sawant, claiming that Sawant was complicit in a planned publicity stunt during the Me Too Movement in 2018. According to Dutta, this resulted in bounced cheques and a severe blow to her reputation. Dutta further contends that Sawant intruded into her personal life, hindering her ability to marry. While Dutta admits to struggling with Sawant’s aggression in the past, she is now taking legal action against her.
In 2008
For those unaware, in 2008, Dutta initially brought forward her accusations against Patekar by filing a complaint with the Cine & TV Artists Association (CINTAA). However, no action was taken as the case was classified as a criminal matter. The same allegation resurfaced in 2013 during an interview, but once again, it received little attention.
In 2018
In 2018, amidst the global Me Too movement, Tanushree Dutta once again sought to draw attention to the trauma and depression she endured due to harassment. Then, in response, CINTAA issued an apology. They acknowledged that the “primary concern of sexual harassment was not properly addressed [in 2008].” However, they clarified that due to the case being over three years old, they were unable to reopen it.
This triggered a widespread Me Too movement within the industry. Numerous prominent actresses and aspiring talents came forward with their own accounts, sending shockwaves across the nation. During this period, Rakhi criticized Tanushree Dutta for spearheading this movement in the industry. She asserted the Aashiq Banaya Apne actress for causing unnecessary commotion in the country.
Currently, Rakhi Sawant is embroiled in a legal dispute with her husband, Adil Khan Durrani. Interestingly, no one seems to be advising her to keep her personal matters out of the public eye. However, it’s worth noting that she previously felt compelled to comment on Tanushree Dutta’s experiences without fully understanding the extent of the hardships and sacrifices Dutta endured due to the harassment she faced.
As of now, Rakhi Sawant has not provided any comments on the matter. Indeed, we hope that Tanushree Dutta receives the justice she rightfully deserves.
