Taapsee Pannu on Trolling and Paparazzi: “I’m a Public Figure, Not Public Property”
Taapsee Pannu, known for her bold and unfiltered opinions, recently opened up about the challenges of dealing with online trolling and intrusive paparazzi. In a recent interview, she made it clear that while she’s comfortable being a public figure, she refuses to be treated like public property.
“I’m very clear about thisโIโm a public figure, not public property,” Taapsee Pannu said, highlighting the importance of mutual respect in her interactions with fans and the media. She went on to explain, “You give respect, I will also give respect. But if you donโt respect me, I wonโt either.” For Taapsee Pannu, being famous doesnโt mean sheโs okay with people crossing boundaries.
Reflecting on the reality of being in the public eye, she admitted, “I think I’ve chosen a life that, unfortunately, I realized too late that whether you do something or not, you’re going to be a troll.” Despite knowing that online trolling is something she canโt escape, Taapsee Pannu has clear boundaries when it comes to real-life interactions, especially with the paparazzi.

“I will not tolerate you shouting at me. You will fall on me, jump on me, get physically close to meโI will not accept it,” Taapsee Pannu stated firmly. She stressed that, while she understands the paparazzi have a job to do, sheโs not okay with anyone invading her personal space. “First, Iโm a girl, a human, then Iโm a celebrity,” she reminded everyone, making it clear that her safety and comfort come first.
That said, Taapsee Pannu isnโt against the paparazzi altogether. “Whenever I go to an event or promote a film, I’m happy to pose in front of the paps,” she shared, showing that sheโs open to engaging with the media when itโs appropriate. However, she added, “But I don’t like paps coming near my personal space. I don’t like being held all the time.”
Her message is simpleโsheโs willing to interact with the media and the public, but on her terms. “Should I disrespect someone? I am human, so if someone speaks to me, I will react,” she said, pointing out that celebrities deserve the same respect and consideration as anyone else.
Taapsee Pannuโs words serve as an important reminder that even public figures need their personal space and respect. As she continues to navigate the complexities of fame, her stance is clear: respect is a two-way street.
