Shefali Shah considers her Bollywood journey to be challenging, even after receiving accolades as a highly esteemed artist. She notes a scarcity of opportunities and also commends the prominent superstars of the nation. Deets Inside.
Shefali Shah is currently savouring the pinnacle of her life as she earns an International Emmy nomination for her outstanding contribution to the demanding web series “Delhi Crime Season 2.” During a recent conversation with The Indian Express, Shefali candidly discussed her journey in the entertainment industry, shedding light on the hurdles she encountered in securing roles despite receiving praise for her performances.
The accomplished actor from “Delhi Crimes” expressed her frustration, remarking, “People hailed me as ‘one of the finest actresses in our country,’ but opportunities eluded me. I garnered awards, but the roles didn’t follow. If validation merely adorns my walls, it serves no purpose. I’ve been in the industry for 25-30 years, but I’ve truly begun to thrive in the last four. My career has been more about waiting than working.”
Remarkably, the wait endured by the actress was substantial enough to transform her from an aspiring talent to a seasoned artist with dwindling opportunities. It may come as a surprise to many that she made her debut in 1995 in the blockbuster “Rangeela,” alongside Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff, and Urmila Matondkar. Since then, as a dedicated artist, she embraced every role that came her way, even if it stretched beyond her age.
When she played mother to Akshay Kumar in Waqt
In 2005, she portrayed Akshay Kumar’s mother, despite being six years younger than him in real life. However, her portrayal was so masterful that as viewers, we hardly noticed it as a significant disparity.
Now, at the age of 50, the actress from “Jalsa” is gaining more substantial exposure as an artist. She has been exceptionally busy over the past four years.
When asked about her perspective on stars, she remarked, “I believe Shah Rukh Khan is a star, and he will always be one. The same goes for Mr Bachchan (Amitabh Bachchan). Dilip Kumar Sahab was also a star.” Speaking about the present generation of actors, Shefali mentioned, “Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are stars. As for me, I am not a star, nor do I aspire to be one.
Shefali Shah exemplifies true artistry and stardom, shining brightly even in challenging times. Her journey serves as a genuine inspiration for others navigating the demanding entertainment industry. We believe she is a self-made artist, a star who was destined to shine, regardless of the obstacles in her path.
