When Rani, a career-oriented woman, visits with her family to discuss marriage, sparks fly between Rani and Veer despite their professional ambitions. Determined to prove himself, Veer books a business class ticket to meet his mentor, Paresh, hoping to discuss his proposal. However, he is disheartened to learn that Paresh is not interested in uplifting the poor. Fortunately, another investor is impressed by Veer’s passion and agrees to hear his proposal, inviting him to a professional meeting.

Buoyed by this new opportunity, Veer proposes to Rani, and they get married. To gain traction for his airline project, Veer poses as a media personnel to reach the President. He convinces the President of the need to support common people like himself and secures the necessary license for his airline, which he names Deccan Airlines.

As the project progresses smoothly, Paresh, who does not want the airline to succeed, uses his connections to halt its operations. Devastated, Veer even attempts to attack Paresh’s office and has a heated argument with his wife, Rani.

Finding a new strategy, Veer offers a 50% partnership to a cargo plane company and moves swiftly to implement his plan while Paresh is out of the country. He creates an internet app for ticket booking and convinces Indian Railways to provide booking counters at railway stations. He hires retired Air Force pilots, leveraging their experience and availability.

During the final testing of the first plane, Paresh’s interference nearly causes a disaster by preventing the plane from landing. With fuel running low, Veer urges the pilot to land at an Air Force base, where his former senior officer surprisingly lets them off with a minimal fine.

Deccan Airlines finally takes off its first flight, but a smoke issue in the engine causes panic among passengers. Veer, entering the cockpit, tragically dies. Despite his heroics, the media paints Deccan Airlines in a negative light, casting doubts on its safety and security.

Amidst the chaos, Veer embraces fatherhood. He uncovers a saboteur within his team but faces a significant public trust issue. Paresh offers to buy Deccan Airlines for 15 crores, but Veer refuses, convincing his team of their mission’s importance.

The conflict between Veer and Paresh escalates into a public war of words, with Paresh instilling fear in the public and Veer striving to restore confidence. Veer attempts another flight, but only his wife and daughter board, leading to a cancellation. On the brink of despair, he discovers an app error and learns that the rest of the flights are fully booked.

The film concludes with Paresh offering a joint business venture, which Veer firmly rejects, standing by his principles and vision for Deccan Airlines.

“Sarfira” is a compelling story of resilience, ambition, and the relentless pursuit of dreams against all odds.

Review and critics

“Sarfira” is a powerful narrative that captures the essence of determination and the relentless pursuit of dreams. The film follows the journey of Veer, a young man from a humble village, and his quest to launch Deccan Airlines against all odds.

Akshay Kumar, who plays Veer, delivers a commendable performance, embodying the character’s grit and resilience. Despite his recent career challenges, Akshay’s portrayal is a testament to his acting prowess, bringing depth and charisma to the role. His ability to convey Veer’s struggles and triumphs makes the character relatable and inspiring.

Radhika Madan, as Rani, confidently steps into her role, adding strength and support to Veer’s journey. Her performance is both heartfelt and convincing, showcasing her talent and making her character a pivotal part of the story.

Paresh Rawal, in the role of the antagonist, fits well into the grey shade of his character. His portrayal adds the necessary tension and conflict, effectively driving the narrative forward.

“Sarfira” tells a wonderful and inspiring story that highlights the importance of perseverance and the courage to chase one’s dreams. While the film has moments that might feel slow and introduce a bit of boredom, these are minor setbacks in an otherwise compelling storyline.

It’s worth noting that Akshay Kumar’s current career slump could impact the film’s overall reception. However, this should not overshadow the fact that “Sarfira” is a film worth watching. It is a testament to the human spirit and the power of unwavering determination.

Overall, “Sarfira” is an inspiring tale that, despite its pacing issues, delivers a powerful message and showcases strong performances from its cast. It’s a movie that resonates with anyone who has ever faced and overcome obstacles in their pursuit of success.
