Sara Ali Khan Opens Up About Rs 5 Crore Lawsuit Over ‘Kedarnath’ and ‘Simmba’ Schedule Clash
Sara Ali Khan recently shared her harrowing experience of being sued for Rs 5 crore by Abhishek Kapoor, the director of her debut film ‘Kedarnath’. In an interview with Mid-Day, Sara Ali Khan revealed the details of the legal issues that arose when her shooting schedule for ‘Kedarnath’ conflicted with her commitment to Rohit Shetty’s film, ‘Simmba’. This scheduling conflict left Sara Ali Khan feeling “shattered” and incredibly stressed.
Sara Ali Khan was in the midst of filming ‘Kedarnath’ when she signed on for ‘Simmba’ in May 2018. As the schedules of both films began to overlap, Sara Ali Khan found herself in a difficult situation. “Some dates went upar neeche and I also signed Simmba,” Sara Ali Khan explained. “There were 3-4 dates that were coinciding. And yeah, I got sued for Rs. 5 crores! I was very nervous because I didn’t have Rs. 5 crores.”
The production of ‘Kedarnath’ had already been delayed due to legal disputes between KriArj Entertainment and Abhishek Kapoor. Sara Ali Khan’s decision to sign ‘Simmba’ further complicated matters, leading to the hefty lawsuit. Sara Ali Khan mentioned that the scheduling conflict and subsequent legal action were largely due to her management team’s oversight.
While dealing with this legal turmoil, Sara Ali Khan was also facing personal challenges. She received the legal notification while she was in Delhi, dealing with her grandfather’s illness. “My mother (Amrita Singh) was in Delhi as her father was dying. Ibrahim was in school. And I was served a vakaalatnaama. I was like, ‘Ab iska main kya karoon? Samaj hi nahin aa raha’!” Sara Ali Khan recounted. She had to send her management team to court while she continued shooting, as the filmmakers were aware of her commitments.
