Story of Rose Rosy Te Gulab
“Rose Rosy Te Gulab” is a startling Punjabi film centered around three main characters, with an unconventional and almost surreal narrative. The title itself is deeply symbolic, as all the characters are connected through variations of the name “Rose”—whether in English or Punjabi.
Gulab, whose name means “rose” in Punjabi, is an unconfident young man obsessed with the idea of getting married as soon as possible. In his desperation, he meticulously plans every detail of his wedding—from the venue to the catering—without having a bride.
In a bizarre twist, his friends intervene with a shocking solution. They hire an orchestra girl named Rosy, paying her a substantial sum to pretend to be Gulab’s wife temporarily. This arrangement is strange and unsettling, highlighting the extremes of Gulab’s desperation and setting the stage for an unexpected series of events.
The plot takes an unexpected turn when Rosy, who is initially cautious and protective of her boundaries, starts to develop genuine feelings for Gulab. Despite their contrived relationship, she begins to see him in a new light, leading to an emotional and complex dynamic.
The situation becomes even more tangled when Gulab falls for another girl named Rose, played by Pranjal Dahiya. This unexpected love triangle creates a chaotic and almost absurd scenario where Gulab is caught between his fabricated marriage and his real romantic interest.
As the story unfolds, the audience is thrust into the shocking reality of Gulab’s life—a life where his dreams of marriage lead to a convoluted mess of deception and misplaced affection. The narrative challenges viewers to grapple with the absurdity and emotional turmoil that ensue from such an unconventional and desperate quest for love.
“Rose Rosy Te Gulab” confronts the audience with a surreal yet compelling tale, forcing them to question the lengths to which someone might go to fulfill their deepest desires, even when those lengths defy logic and societal norms.
Review and critics of Rose Rosy Te Gulab
“Rose Rosy Te Gulab” leaves viewers baffled, questioning the filmmaker’s intentions. The script offers little substance, centering on a lead character who, despite being the backbone of the story, is portrayed as incapable and incomplete. Gurnaam Bhullar’s character, Gulab, is so obsessed with planning his wedding that he overlooks the crucial detail of finding a bride. This portrayal of a boy who transitions from being fixated on a marriage party to falling deeply in love is confusing and implausible.
Gurnaam Bhullar, primarily known as a singer, falls short in his acting debut. His performance as Gulab fails to add value to the screen, lacking the depth and conviction needed for the role. His transition from singing to acting appears to be driven more by a desire for extra income than a genuine passion for the craft. The lack of dedication to his new profession is evident, and it detracts significantly from the film’s overall impact.
The film attempts to evoke nostalgia for 90s Bollywood but only succeeds in superficially borrowing elements without matching the quality of those classics. The script is neither competitive nor compelling, failing to capture the essence of what made those older films engaging.
While Bhullar’s fame might draw an initial audience, relying solely on comedy for entertainment falls flat. If comedy alone could guarantee success, then even Kapil Sharma would have transitioned smoothly into film stardom. Bhullar needs to either commit fully to acting or stick to his strength in singing.
Although “Rose Rosy Te Gulab” might attract positive reviews and achieve some commercial success, it lacks the artistic engagement that turns a film into a memorable experience. True entertainers in Punjabi cinema, like Jayy Randhawa, Neeru Bajwa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Yograj Singh, and Nirmal Rishi, bring depth and authenticity to their roles, creating characters that resonate with audiences. Unfortunately, this film falls short of that mark, failing to leave a lasting impression.
In summary, “Rose Rosy Te Gulab” is a missed opportunity. It neither captivates the audience nor provides the engaging narrative that one expects from a well-crafted film. It serves as a reminder that real artistic engagement and character development are essential for creating a lasting impact.
