Controversy Surrounding Punjabi Film ‘Buhe Bariyan’: Neeru Bajwa Appears in Amritsar Court
The Punjabi film ‘Buhe Bariyan,’ starring Neeru Bajwa released last year. Since then, it has been embroiled in a continuous controversy, with objections raised by the Valmiki community regarding certain dialogues in the film. The community alleges that the film portrays them in a negative light. However, actors associated with the film have since issued apologies for any offence caused.
Today, actress Neeru Bajwa, along with film writer Jagdeep Waring, appeared in Amritsar Court to address the matter. Both Bajwa and Waring expressed their remorse, stating that they had already apologized to the court and on social media platforms. Additionally, they visited the Ram Tirtha temple to seek forgiveness for any unintended hurt caused.
Waring explained that objections were raised against certain dialogues in the film, which were never meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments. The controversy stemmed from the portrayal of characters from different castes, with concerns raised about misrepresentation and negative stereotypes.
The main complainants, Simran and Aman, highlighted that their protest against the film and its actress, Neeru Bajwa, led to a police case being registered. They emphasized that derogatory language used in the film against their community’s daughters and sisters warranted an apology. Their condition for forgiveness includes Bajwa’s visit to the Valmiki Tirtha to seek forgiveness and offer obeisance.
The controversy surrounding ‘Boohe Bariyan’ underscores the importance of sensitivity and cultural awareness in filmmaking and the need for open dialogue to address grievances and promote mutual understanding.
