Nawazuddin Siddiqui Critiques Lavish Spending in Bollywood Amid Industry Slump

Nawazuddin Siddiqui shares some baseless and lavish demands of the actors that are in practice for years.

Bollywood faces a downturn with even big-budget films failing to draw crowds, discussions about rising production costs and the excessive entourages of actors have intensified.

Addressing this issue, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared his candid views. “Yeh aaj se nahi, bohot pehle se hota aa raha hai,” he remarked, emphasizing that such issues have been long-standing in the industry.

Nawazuddin pointed out the extravagant demands some actors make on set, saying, “There are many unnecessary demands that actors have, they want everything lavish. I have even heard that some actors have five vanity vans — one for gymming, one for cooking, one for eating, bathing, practising lines, and what not. Yeh paagalpan hai. Koi paagal hi hoga jo paanch vanity van leke chalta hai.”

Nawazuddin firmly believes that such unreasonable demands are detrimental to the industry. “Why would any actor want to increase the cost of the production? This is absolutely wrong. Put money in films instead; that would be a better and wiser thing to do. Jo inn nawaabon ko shaunk hain woh toh film mein nawaabon ke bhi nahi honge,” he quipped.

Nawazuddin, known for his dedication to his craft, clarified that he avoids making such demands. “I just wish that I should work well and nothing else. Meri toh aisi koi demands nahi hoti. Production ke time se pehle main khada hota hoon shoot ke liye,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to professionalism.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui also praised independent filmmakers and young creators for their fresh perspectives and refusal to be awed by Bollywood’s traditional grandeur. “They make content on their own terms, bring stories where they come from, and I feel really good about that. It gives me hope that this kind of cinema will grow. Main challenge ke saath kehta hoon, hamesha choti aur deep filmen hi desh ki pehchaan hain jo world mein popular hoti hain. Cinema should be for independent filmmakers who thrive on content, and not be concerned about only making it look lavish,” Nawazuddin concluded.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui will next be seen in the Zee 5 film “Rautu Ka Raaz,” where his focus, as always, remains on delivering a stellar performance without succumbing to the pressures of unnecessary extravagance.
