Shahkot Film released on 4th October despite heavy opposition from Shiv Sena only to tank at the box office.
Guru Randhawa, known for his hit Punjabi songs, recently made his Pollywood debut in the film Shahkot (2024). Directed by Rajiv Dhingra, the movie stars Randhawa as Iqbal, a man mistaken for someone from Shahkot, Pakistan. As Iqbal tries to escape and return to India, he finds himself working for a politician named Abbaji (played by Raj Babbar). Things get complicated when Abbaji’s daughter, Marvi (played by Isha Talwar), falls for Iqbal, even though her father has other plans for her marriage.
While the story of Shahkot had potential, Guru Randhawa’s acting leaves much to be desired. Like many singers who try to become actors, Randhawa seems to rely more on his fame than on improving his acting skills. His performance feels flat, lacking the depth needed for his character. Unfortunately, despite the buzz around his debut, theaters remained empty, and the film didn’t do well at the box office. The opposition from Shiv Sena, which criticized the film for its portrayal of Pakistan and India, also hurt the movie’s performance.
