Khel Khel Mein struggles at Box Office despite 5 day long weekend, good cast and compelling script.
Akshay Kumarโs latest film, Khel Khel Mein, seemed like it had all the ingredients for a hitโa strong cast, a relatable storyline, and a prime holiday release. But despite these factors, the movie has struggled to pull in audiences.
A Disappointing Weekend for Khel Khel Mein
With its release during the long Independence Day weekend and the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday, expectations were high. Yet, Khel Khel Mein only managed to bring in โน15 crores over the weekendโa disappointing start for a film made on a big budget of โน100 crores. The film’s daily earnings hovered below โน4 crores on average per day, which is far from what was expected. And it is likely to fall further making it tough to continue screening.
A Story That Should Have Resonated
The movie follows four friends who reunite at a family wedding. Three come with their wives, and one arrives alone. They decide to play a game where they must reveal all their phone calls, emails, and messages to the group. Naturally, secrets come out, and things spiral out of control. Itโs a scenario that many can relate to, touching on the fine line between honesty and the need to sometimes keep things to ourselves.
While the plot had potential, the film struggled to capture attention from the start. The first 15 minutes, where the characters are introduced, drag on a bit, and this slow beginning might have turned off some viewers. However, once the game begins, the movie picks up pace and delivers a meaningful message about the importance of protecting relationships, sometimes even with a well-placed lie.
This was supposed to be Akshay Kumarโs big return to comedyโa genre where heโs previously thrived. Unfortunately, it hasnโt gone according to plan. His recent films have struggled, and Khel Khel Mein is another to add to that list. Compounding the problem is the success of Stree 2, which released around the same time and has been breaking box office records, further overshadowing Khel Khel Mein.
The poor performance in theaters hints at the failure of Khel Khel Mein, only OTT can be hoped for a better audience. The filmโs themesโbalancing truth and lies in relationshipsโmight resonate more with viewers in the comfort of their homes. Many films that have underperformed at the box office have gone on to become hits online, and Khel Khel Mein could follow this path.
In the end, Khel Khel Mein is a reminder that even when things donโt go as planned at Box office and one should be well prepared for all outcomes. After all the hard work the results seem like the ones in betting.ย

When asked if she has any friends in Bollywood, Kangana’s response was straightforward: “I’m not a Bollywood kind of person. I can’t be friends with Bollywood people for sure. Bollywood people are just full of themselves. They’re stupid, they are dumb, protein shake…They are like grasshoppers, totally blank. How do you be friends with such people? They have no idea of what’s going on where. They have no conversations.”
