Kareena Kapoor Khan makes her producer debut. And she takes on the lead role as Jaspreet Bhamra, a grieving mother and police detective in The Buckingham Murders. In the narrative, she tackles a missing person’s case involving an Indian teenager. The prime suspect in the story has ties to Pakistani Muslim heritage. The film weaves a fictional story that mirrors Leicester’s recent ethnoreligious tensions. Further, it was marked by outbreaks of violence, riots, and community demonstrations.
The tale made a successful premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on 14th October 2023. During her interactions with the media, the accomplished Udta Punjab actress conveyed that the murder mystery, set against the backdrop of last year’s upheaval between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, and in a time when sectarian conflicts are escalating in India, serves as her way of subtly advocating for peace. She emphasized her strong belief in this cause, stating, “Ultimately, we are all part of the same human race. We all live under the same sun and stand on the same earth – so why should there be any divisions?”

For those who may not know, on a personal level, Kareena Kapoor Khan comes from a Hindu background and is married to Saif Ali Khan, who follows the Muslim faith. Her married life stands as a testament to her belief in humanity that transcends religious boundaries.
Kareena chose to retain her family name even after marriage, defying the tradition of dropping it, and also adopted her husband’s surname, setting a noteworthy example for her admirers and supporters.
