The episode featured the team of the upcoming film Baby John, including director Kalees, co-producer and writer Atlee, and lead stars Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi. In the clip that sparked the outrage, Kapil Sharma asked Atlee, “Atlee sir, actually you are so young, aur aap itne bade producer-director ban gaye hain. Kabhi aapke saath aisa hua hai ki aap kisi star se milne gaye first time, aur usko laga hi naa ho ki aap Atlee ho? Usne kaha, ‘Where is Atlee?’” While Kapil Sharma’s tone appeared playful, several social media users claimed the question insulted Atlee’s looks.
The post went viral, prompting a flood of criticism against the comedian Kapil Sharma.
Kapil responded to the backlash on X (formerly Twitter), retweeting the post and writing, “Dear sir, can you pls explain to me where n when I talked about looks in this video? Pls don’t spread hate on social media 🙏 thank you. (Guys, watch n decide by yourself, don’t follow anybody’s tweet like a sheep).”
