Kangana Ranaut Sells Her Pali Hill Bungalow for Rs 32 Crore bearing losses During ‘Emergency’ Promotions
In a recent update, Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut has sold her bungalow in the posh Pali Hill area of Mumbai while promoting her upcoming film Emergency. The property, which was sold for Rs 32 crore to a company from Hyderabad, was originally priced at Rs 40 crore, meaning Kangana faced a loss of Rs 8 crore in the deal.
Kangana bought this Pali Hill bungalow back in September 2017 for Rs 20.7 crore. She used it as the office for her production company, Manikarnika Films. The bungalow covers a total area of 285 square meters, with the building itself being 3,042 square feet and a 500-square-foot parking space. The office had two floors and was located in one of Mumbai’s most expensive neighborhoods, where many Bollywood stars live.
In December 2022, Kangana took a loan of Rs 27 crore from ICICI Bank, putting her bungalow as collateral. Despite the loan, she continued using the space as her production house office until now.
The sale of Kangana’s bungalow was first hinted at last month when a YouTube channel called Code Estate posted a video showing a production house office that was up for sale. While the video didn’t mention any names, viewers quickly recognized the office as Kangana’s. Many social media users speculated in the comments that it was indeed her Pali Hill office.
The video also revealed that the property was priced at Rs 40 crore, but the final sale amount was Rs 32 crore, meaning Kangana lost Rs 8 crore in the transaction.
Kangana’s Pali Hill bungalow has been involved in controversy before. In 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished part of her office, accusing her of illegal construction. Kangana took the matter to the Bombay High Court, which stopped the demolition halfway. She later sued the BMC and asked for Rs 2 crore in compensation for the damages. However, in May 2023, she withdrew her case.
Kangana’s financial challenges with her bungalow sale come at a time when her film Emergency is also facing backlash. The movie, which she directed, tells the story of India’s political Emergency in 1975 under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. However, the film has been criticized for allegedly misrepresenting the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, leading to protests from various groups.
For Kangana, Emergency is a big project, and its success or failure will likely have a major impact on her career. Industry insiders are watching closely to see how the film performs at the box office, especially since it has already faced strong opposition from some political and religious groups.
