In a recent statement, actor Manoj Bajpayee expressed contentment with the reception of his films in the previous year, acknowledging the challenge of standing against big releases in 2023. He noted that audience enjoyment of films like Jawaan, Pathaan, Gadar 2, OMG 2 and Animal reflected their diverse tastes, and while striving to offer alternative entertainment, the visibility of films in cinemas remains crucial.
Manoj emphasized the importance of making films available in theatres, stating, “If our films are not in the theatres, how will people come to watch them?”
Regarding the ongoing debate over violent and misogynistic content in recent blockbusters, Manoj offered a straightforward perspective. He opined that if cinema had the power to significantly alter society or mindset, there would already be societal transformation. Drawing examples from the works of legendary filmmakers like Raj Kapoor, V Shantaram, Bimal Roy, and Mehboob Khan, he questioned whether their reformist films had truly changed societal structures or prejudices.
Manoj Bajpayee concluded that, in his view, cinema primarily serves as entertainment. Despite the negative worldview depicted in certain films, he maintained that movies, regardless of their content, cannot fundamentally alter people’s thoughts and beliefs.
