Bollywood actor Harman Baweja upon his journey to date and the validity of Nepotism in Bollywood

Nepotism in Bollywood is an ongoing debate in the occupation of entertainment in India. It is a platform for artists but a few consider it more as their heritage. And they want to gift it to the next batch as personal property. While appearing in the latest chapter of Aur Batao, actor Harman Baweja discussed his career journey. He also reviewed the ongoing debate on nepotism.

He is gaining positive critics in the market for his good work and contribution in the web drama Scoop. It is an original web series that launched on Netflix on 2 June 2023. He started by comparing the situation of a Starkid to a businessman’s kid. Where he himself gathers all the knowledge and gains skills with hard work all his life. Also when the situation comes he wants to give his best to the next of kin. It comes as a duty of that person as a father to pass the best on to the next generation. He even added that he understands this today as he as well is a father that he owes this to the next.

Baweja Family

For the unversed, Harman Baweja is the son of the director Harry Baweja who is known for directing historical superhits like Dilwale and Diljale. He debuted with Love Story 2050 released in 2008. The film badly tanked at the Box office. It was a trial of the Baweja family to introduce their son in the industry as a main lead Harry Baweja directed it and his wife Pammi Baweja produced it. They even cast one of the top actresses Priyanka Chopra for the female role. But it couldn’t make a win at the Box office.

Further

While talking to the Radio Jockey he also added that he finds the debate somehow valid in his profession. Because he feels that it is the very crucial nature of a human that they will try to keep things for the next age group. Harman Baweja even witnessed the same with his career. As a responsible father, his father Harry introduced him as a lead actor in the Bollywood industry. But the project failed giving the Starkid a setback. Then he acted in some more ventures and they as well tanked at the box office.

While the actor was facing a downfall in his career. His dad, Harry Baweja kept insisting that he will make another film for his son. But Harman did not agree to the idea and rejected it every time. Here, the validity of Nepotism gets justified. The actor also threw some light on the reason for rejecting his father’s idea. He said that he believed that they did their part. And now it was his turn to continue the journey without the support of Nepotism in Hindi Cinema.

In the end, he said that as a parent one educates kids, and gives them the best upbringing. And once they are grown up it is their journey, hard work, and destiny.

Scoop, Original Netflix series.

Scoop is a crime drama based on the murder of a newspaper editor. Actress Karishma Tanna plays the main lead. and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Devon Bhojani play the additional supporting cast. There is also news that the series will unveil some true incidents from 2010.

Nepotism in Bollywood

The debate about Nepotism started with the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the industry. His loss is irrecoverable but it threw some light on the dirty practices that are going on in the industry since 1950. It started with the legendary Raj Kapoor who bought his kids as the main leads. Hence, the trend of introducing star kids started.

Kangana Tweets

But vocal actress Kangana Ranaut sparked the debate in the industry and even called producers like Karan Johar the movie mafia. She also revealed that these filmy families actually gang up against outsiders. And make it hard for them to continue in the industry. Additionally, she also tweeted that many outsiders are replaced with star kids as producers and directors try to make favors to the parents and relatives of these kids born to celebrity families.

Other outsiders as well joined her in the league and shared their experiences in the industry. A few of them include Kriti Sanon, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Anushka Sharma, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the list. They shared their experiences from time to time and took a dig at the ongoing practices of nepotism in the industry.

Further, actresses like Alia Bhatt have as well admitted on screen that it was easy for them to get their first film. But many celebrities like Sonam Bajwa from Pollywood still believe that star kids like Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt get privileged entry to producers and directors like Karan Johar.

Harman Baweja’s open acceptance of the validity of Nepotism gives a glimpse of some dirty practices that are going on in the industry.

Our Views

We agree with the Scoop actor that the practice of introducing star kids is not going to stop as the parents will always feel that they owe this to their next peer group. But the favoritism in Bollywood and privileged services for celebrity families need to stop. Moreover, it must be declared illegal to make gangs against outsiders and new entrants in the profession.
