Emergency Film delayed, Bombay High Court Refuses to Rush the Release of Kangana Ranautโ€™s Film โ€˜Emergencyโ€™ Due to CBFC Certification Delay

In a recent court drama, the Bombay High Court decided not to force the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to quickly release Kangana Ranautโ€™s eagerly awaited movie Emergency. The film’s co-producers, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, had urgently approached the court on September 4, 2024, asking it to step in because they felt the CBFC was unfairly delaying the certification needed to release the movie.

The court, led by Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, made it clear that they could not pass an immediate order due to a similar case happening in another state. On September 3, 2024, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered the CBFC to consider objections raised by the Jabalpur Sikh Sangat, a group that had issues with the movie and its trailer. Because of this ongoing case, the Bombay High Court decided not to interfere by telling the CBFC to issue the certificate right away.

Emergency was originally set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024. However, due to this legal battle, the release date has been pushed back by two weeks. The court has now ordered the CBFC to address the objections by September 18, 2024, with a follow-up hearing set for September 19, 2024. This leaves the filmmakers in a tough spot, unsure when the movie will finally be released.

The producers argued that the CBFC had already completed the certification process and that the certificate was ready but had not been issued because it wasnโ€™t signed by the CBFC chairperson. They felt this delay was unfair, especially since they had been informed about the certification on August 29, 2024. The court seemed to agree that the delay was unusual and even mentioned that it might have ordered the CBFC to issue the certificate immediately if not for the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s earlier order.

The judges hinted that there might be other factors at play behind the scenes, which they didnโ€™t want to discuss openly. This has led to more speculation about why the CBFC is delaying the certification.

For Zee Studios and Kangana Ranaut, this delay is a big problem. The postponement of the release date has created financial and logistical challenges, and now they have to reorganize their promotional plans and distribution schedules.

This legal issue has sparked a lot of discussion in Bollywood and beyond, raising questions about the role of the CBFC and how legal matters can impact the release of films. Everyone is now waiting to see what the CBFC decides and whether Emergency will be able to meet its new release date.

In the coming days, all eyes will be on the CBFC to see how it handles this situation. Whether the movie will be released as planned is still uncertain, but the ongoing drama around Emergency is far from over.
