IPL 2024: Key Information and Updates
Start Date of IPL24
The IPL24 kicks off on Friday, 22 March, with a thrilling match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, beginning at 14:30 GMT.
Schedule and Final Date:
Due to the Lok Sabha elections in India scheduled between 19 April and 1 June, the complete IPL24 schedule is yet to be released. The fixtures for the first two weeks have been announced, with the remainder to follow in due course. The final date will be confirmed once the full schedule is revealed.
The IPL24 features ten teams divided into two groups, Group A and Group B. Each team plays 14 group games, facing the teams in their group once and the other group twice (home and away). The top teams from each group proceed to the playoffs, competing for a place in the final.
New Rules in IPL24:
A notable change in the IPL24 rules allows players to bowl two bouncers per over, up from one in previous seasons. Other rules, including team naming after the toss, wide and no-ball reviews, and the ‘impact player’ rule, remain unchanged.
Players shifted confirmed so far
1. Hardik Pandya returns to Mumbai Indians as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma.
2. Mitchell Starc from Australia joins Kolkata Knight Riders for £2.3m.
3. Pat Cummins takes over the captaincy at Sunrisers Hyderabad.
4. Rishabh Pant is expected to captain Delhi Capitals.
5. New faces include New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra (Chennai Super Kings) and Sri Lanka seamer Dilshan Madushanka (Mumbai Indians), following their impressive performances in the 50-over World Cups.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, both with five titles each, aim to secure a record sixth championship win.
