A recent video purportedly showcasing Ranveer expressing his political views during his visit to Varanasi has caused a stir online. However, a shocking revelation emerged that the audio accompanying the video was generated using an artificial intelligence voice clone of the actor.
Despite the video appearing to be genuine, the synthetic nature of the audio exposes the sinister capabilities of deepfake technology. In response to this disturbing incident, Ranveer took to his Instagram Story to issue a stark warning: “Deepfake se bacho doston (Friends, beware of deepfakes).” Although his post did not directly address the circulating clip, its timing clearly indicated a direct response to the deepfake video.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers posed by deepfake technology in today’s digital age. In the recent past actor Aamir Khan’s deepfake was used to promote a political party for upcoming elections but his PR team took immediate action informing the fans about the lack of authenticity in the video. Also, an FIR has been registered on the unnamed for creating an AI video of the actor without his permission.
The timeframe have reached when we need to reconfirm the authenticity of the information available on internet platforms as artificial intelligence is capable enough to create and present anything that do not exist.
