Review: Call Me Bae Trailer โ All Style, No Substance
Call Me Bae trailer released on YouTube with Ananya Panday portraying the lead role of Bae.
After watching the trailer for Ananya Pandayโs new series Call Me Bae, itโs hard not to feel a bit underwhelmed. The show seems more interested in showcasing fashion and luxury than telling a meaningful story. The idea of a rich girl suddenly having to live like an ordinary person could have been interesting, but here it just feels unrealistic and hollow.
Ananya Panday does a solid job as Bae in Call Me Bae, sheโs charming and effortlessly slips into the role. Itโs clear sheโs having fun with it, and her comic timing is spot on. But she seems stuck in a role that doesnโt really give her much to work with. Bae is essentially just a slightly more refined version of Kareena Kapoorโs Poo from K3G or Alia Bhattโs Shanaya from Student of the Year, atleast what i find. Thereโs nothing particularly fresh or exciting about the character or the story. Imagine K3G or Student Of The Year with just Poo or Shanaya. We’re they worth the screentime?
The Call Me Bae series looks like itโs going to be all about the glitz and glamor, with plenty of designer clothes and stylish settings. But beyond that, thereโs not much substance. Imagine, a privileged girl trying to navigate a middle-class life feels more like a fantasy than anything relatable. Itโs hard to take it seriously when Bae is freaking out about taking an auto or trying to hold down a jobโit just doesnโt feel real.
Seems like Karan Johar is stuck in the fantasy of Poo and Shanaya and believe that such a character is worth carrying a whole project.
Even with Karan Johar backing the series, itโs doubtful that Call Me Bae will find a large audience, even on OTT platforms. If it had been released in theaters, it probably would have badly tanked. The show seems too focused on looking good rather than telling a strong story, and thatโs going to make it hard for viewers to connect.
In the end, Call Me Bae feels like just another series thatโs all about style over substance. While Ananya Panday does her best with what sheโs given, the lack of a strong script means this show is likely to be forgotten soon after it airs.
For those unaware, Call Me Bae is slated to release on 6th September on Amazon Prime Videos. It is worth watching it only if you belond to the fashion world or page 3 world for a reason.
