Renowned Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal Critiques Depiction of God in OMG 2. Deets Inside.
Bollywood veteran Paresh Rawal expressed his reservations about “OMG 2,” emphasizing that the storyline itself was robust enough without the need to incorporate a divine character. Rawal, who portrayed a significant role in the original “OMG: Oh My God!” movie, asserted that the script held ample strength on its own.
The initial film, released in 2012, achieved tremendous success, revolving around the theme of the existence of God in everyday life. In the movie, Akshay Kumar portrayed the role of God, aiding his devotee in overcoming challenges. Riding on the triumph of the first instalment, the creators expanded it into a series, retaining Kumar’s portrayal of the divine figure. However, Rawal’s perspective contended that the central narrative of the story possessed inherent strength and sensitivity, capable of drawing audiences to theatres without the inclusion of a deity.
Despite facing initial criticism for its portrayal of God, the sequel encountered significant backlash at the outset. Nevertheless, “OMG 2” managed to secure a noteworthy victory at the box office, yielding substantial profits for the makers despite the initial adverse reception. The addition of the divine character, while generating similar expectations among viewers, initially faced severe criticism but did not impede the film’s commercial success.
Maybe as an artist, Paresh Rawal is right at his point. But both of the films did well at the Box office. We wish to see more of such society-challenging films in future.
