Arvind Kejriwal out of jail. Delhi Court Grants Bail to Chief Minister of Delhi in Liquor Policy Case
Arvind Kejriwal was in jail owing to liquor policy probe case against him since March 2024.
In a significant development, a Delhi court has granted bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the ongoing liquor policy case, requiring a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief is expected to be released from jail on Friday, pending the arrival of the bail order at the prison.
During the hearing, Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer argued that the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) case against him relies heavily on statements from individuals who have turned approvers. Despite a request from ED’s special counsel, Zoheb Hossain, to stay the bail order until the ED could pursue legal remedies, the court rejected the request.
“Accused is admitted to bail in the sum of Rs 1 lakh,” stated Special Judge Niyay Bindu. The court also mentioned that Arvind Kejriwal’s counsel could apply for the bail bond the following day before the concerned judge.
Following the court’s decision, AAP leader Atishi expressed relief and optimism, stating, “Satyamev Jayate. Truth can be troubled, but not defeated.”
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was initially arrested on March 21, just days before the general elections. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail until June 1 to allow him to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.
Amid all the campaigning, Aam Aadmi Party lost in Delhi constituency with BJP taking over with 100% win.
Before this Liquor case, Arvind Kejriwal was even expected to be the next PM with Aam Aadmi Party winning majority in India. But just before the elections, his arrest and defamation across internet almost brought the party to a stage from where it started almost a decade ago.
Let’s see how public accept Arvind Kejriwal after his bail in his own state Delhi.
