Big news Anurag Kashyap Slams Bollywood Filmmaking

Anurag Kashyap Criticizes the Film Industry states Bollywood Lacks the Brains to Make a ‘Pushpa’

Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has never shied away from speaking his mind, and his recent comments about Bollywood have stirred up a big conversation. In a candid interview, Kashyap criticized the Hindi film industry, saying it lacks the creativity and intelligence to create a film like the Telugu blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise or its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule. Kashyap said, “They can’t even make a Pushpa. They don’t have the brains for it.”

He praised director Sukumar, who helmed Pushpa, for his unique vision and ability to tell an engaging story. Anurag Kashyap pointed out that the South Indian film industry has given its filmmakers the freedom to explore bold ideas and make movies that connect deeply with audiences. He contrasted this with Bollywood, where, according to him, ego-driven decisions and the obsession with creating cinematic universes often overshadow the need for meaningful storytelling.

The massive success of Pushpa 2: The Rule proves Anurag Kashyap’s point. The film has been a game-changer, earning more than ₹1,760 crore globally and becoming one of the top three highest-grossing Indian movies of all time. With Allu Arjun’s electrifying performance and a gripping storyline, the movie has won hearts across the country and beyond, showcasing the power of strong regional cinema.

Anurag Kashyap also expressed disappointment with Bollywood’s studio-dominated model, which he believes restricts creativity and prevents filmmakers from taking risks. He shared his own struggles as an example, pointing out how his movie Kennedy received praise at the Cannes Film Festival but is still struggling to secure a release in India. According to him, this reflects Bollywood’s unwillingness to embrace diverse and experimental storytelling.

Anurag Kashyap’s sharp remarks highlight the challenges Bollywood is facing today. Regional cinema, especially from the South, is stepping up with bold stories and innovative filmmaking, while Bollywood seems to be stuck in a cycle of formulaic productions. Audiences now want fresh and exciting content, and the growing popularity of regional films is proof of this shift.

Anurag Kashyap criticizes Bollywood for lacking Pushpa like vision

The big question is whether Bollywood will take these criticisms as a wake-up call. Will it adapt and evolve to match the expectations of modern audiences? Or will it continue to fall behind as regional cinema captures the spotlight? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: the industry needs to rethink its priorities and put storytelling first.
