The Bollywood heartthrob of the 90s Anil Kapoor shares his experience over ups and downs at the Box office.
Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor reacted to the news that there is a trend of continuous flops in the market. As is the latest debate in the market that films are failing to get footfall. Even good projects and the most secure celebrities are facing losses. The never ageing star of the industry comes up with his feelings on the same and said that this is quite normal.
He even added that he does not find anything unusual in the fact that films are flopping or not able to convince the audience at the ticket window. The comment of the superhit movie Beta actor reads, “I have been working for so many years. Even my father (Surinder Kapoor) was also in this industry. So we have been here for around 60 years. Actors, directors, and producers talking about films working and not working…..”.
He further added stating that,” yeh Silsila toh Kai Saalon se chal raha hai( this series of ups and downs at the Box office with movies working or working this all is happening from many years ago). There are phases for example for 2 years a particular type of film doesn’t work and people say industry band ho rahi hai. ( Industry is about to shut down)”.
He further added, “I myself have seen these faces 5 to 6 times in my whole career. But that doesn’t happen. It will never happen. It is just how every person sees ups and downs in their life. So it is the same with the business there will be good and bad times”.
Additionally, he also said,” I take it positively because, during the COVID-19 pandemic, people have taken time to try and understand how to work harder do better and make good films. The films that we will see now will be very good. The audience will like it.”
His words also included, “People learn a lot in such situations and those who don’t, they don’t survive. I think those who are sincere and honest with their work and know their job who know their craft for them there’s nothing to get scared about they just have to keep working. Films will be made if the films are good then the audience will come to watch them. They are watching good films”.
We also agree with the Welcome series Munna at this point because films like RRR and Pathan saw a huge footfall in the same theatres after the COVID-19 situation. When makers were scared to launch their projects in theatres and opted for OTT to play safe.
At the same time, RRR became the highest grosser breaking many past records. Houses were full and there were queues at the ticket window. This simply means that the audience is there. But only for a good script, good movies, good ideas, good stories, good acting, and good skills.
Obviously, now the audience is more demanding. They want something new and different, beyond a basic story with a love angle or another basic struggle and fight-oriented drama. Now the viewers want to feel a continuous connection with the narrative. Then only they consider watching it in theatres.
Further, additionally, OTT generates direct competition at the Box office. Movies can launch and succeed on OTT directly. And it comes with further competition in the subcategory as we have already Netflix, Zee5, Amazon Prime, and Jio Cinema. Further, other sources of entertainment include youtube, social media many national channels, and local cable operators. Hence audience is available with uncountable sources of entertainment.
And they will walk out of their comfort only to watch best. Hence the makers and investors should not take one single point to make a story. Rather they should think the audience will not reach to watch just a love story. It should be a complete entertainer. No scene in the flick should generate boredom. The story must connect well with the audience both emotionally and in entertainment terms.
And, intense promotions in the start to generate initial footfall should be considered topmost in the list of Do’s. Because the right exposure can tell if the project failed or passed. But when makers lack to promote their work they actually fail to expose. Hence the failure results are biased.
Last but not least when the whole of the industry is shaken, our experienced Nayak of the industry is still keeping confident. It is somehow a sign that there is still a place for good work in the industry. And only the best will keep its existence in this trying time of the Hindi Cinema.
