Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar Share Hard-Hitting profit sharing Truths at HTLS 2024
Bollywood icons Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar recently addressed the contentious issue of actor salaries at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS) 2024. In a candid conversation with Sonal Kalra, Chief Managing Editor, Entertainment & Lifestyle, Hindustan Times, the actors shed light on how remuneration in Bollywood is evolving to match the industryโs financial realities.
Ajay Devgn dismissed the notion that actors demand exorbitant fees. He explained, โThe actors charge according to scripts, films, and projects. And most of us are charging according to recoveries.โ This pragmatic approach ties actors’ earnings to a filmโs potential to generate revenue.
Akshay Kumar elaborated on the profit-sharing model, a growing trend in Bollywood. โIf we sign a film today, we don’t charge anything; we just take a stake. If it works, we get a share in the profit, but if it doesn’t, we don’t get any money,โ he shared. This ensures that actors share the risk with producers, creating a more balanced and fair financial ecosystem. Ajay Devgn added, โSometimes, there is no share, either. Then you have to let go of the price. That’s also passion.โ
Their recent blockbuster โSingham Againโ is a testament to this balance of passion and pragmatism. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film has grossed over โน300 crore at the box office, with Ajay Devgn reprising his iconic role and Akshay delivering a standout extended cameo.
By advocating performance-based pay, both actors challenge traditional norms and offer a sustainable model for the industry. Their remarks spark a critical question: Should Bollywood adopt profit-sharing as the norm to curb inflated budgets and ensure financial fairness?

He is supported by a whistleblower (Ridhi Dogra), exposing systemic corruption, and a conflicted character (Raashii Khanna), whose personal struggles mirror the societal chaos. The narrative intertwines political games, media manipulations, and ethical dilemmas, presenting a fictionalized version of a grim historical reality.
Review:
The Sabarmati Report ventures into sensitive territory, attempting to explore the societal and political impact of the Godhra tragedy. While the premise is bold and relevant, the execution falters as it leans too heavily on dramatization, making the story feel exaggerated rather than authentic. The portrayal of media as morally ambiguous, a significant theme, fails to hit the mark, missing an opportunity to offer a nuanced critique of journalismโs influence on shaping public perception.

Representing Jacqueline Fernandez, her legal team stated, “She was not involved in money laundering nor was she aware of the source of the gifts.” The actress has now been drawn into the spotlight of a publicized investigation led by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which accuses Chandrasekhar of extorting vast sums from Aditi Singh, wife of a prominent businessman, and using those funds to shower Jacqueline Fernandez with expensive gifts.
