Tiger 3 Release Strategy: Breaking the Friday Norms
Yash Raj Films (YRF) is set to release Tiger 3 in theatres on November 12. They are deviating from the conventional Friday release pattern. This departure from the norm has sparked audience curiosity. The film could have premiered on a Friday or even a Thursday, aligning with festive holidays to maximize footfall. However, the decision to coincide with Laxmi Puja/Diwali, traditionally a day with lower footfall, has raised eyebrows.
YRF’s Unconventional Release Strategy
Rohan Malhotra, the Vice President of Distribution for Yash Raj Films, shed light on this unconventional strategy. He drew parallels with the release of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “Pathaan,” which premiered on a Wednesday, the day before Republic Day. Malhotra emphasized the focus on the film’s lifetime collection rather than the opening day numbers. But, in the case of “Pathaan,” the extended weekend, with Republic Day falling on Thursday, played a positive role in time management.
In an interview, Rohan explained, “I always believe that it is absolutely fine to do the conventional. And there is no need to reinvent if there is no need for it.” He justified the decision to release “Tiger 3” on Laxmi Puja day, traditionally considered a weak release day. Also he states, “We definitely felt that going on Laxmi Puja day would be a better fit for our film.”
Trust in Quality and Star Power
Rohan’s statements also reflect YRF’s belief in the exceptional quality of their films and their trust in Salman Khan’s star power to attract audiences. They focus on lifetime business, rather than just opening day figures. Hence they align with their approach seen in the successful release of “Pathaan.”
However, questions arise about the necessity of choosing Diwali if only star power matters. Also, the timing of the release raises speculation, prompting some to believe that the date might have been suggested by an astrologer or through tarot readings.
Tiger 3: Riding High on Diwali Festivities
As Diwali celebrations are in full swing across India, the “Tiger 3” team is also actively engaged in promotions and events. They further aim to convince the audience that celebrating Diwali would be incomplete without experiencing “Tiger 3.” The excitement surrounding the film’s release during the festive season also adds a unique dimension to the overall marketing strategy.
In conclusion, the choice of an unconventional release date, coupled with the team’s energetic promotional efforts, suggests YRF’s confidence in the film’s potential success during the vibrant Diwali celebrations. It leads to the government’s imposition of a stringent lifetime ban in response to the request from Akal Takht Sahib.

The main star cast of Dastaan E Sirhind includes Gurpreet Ghuggi, Ansh Tejpal, Sardar Sohi, Gurpreet Bangu, Shabaz Khan, Pramodh Mathuo, Ali Khan, Jaswant Daman and Yograaj Singh. Hobby Dhaliwal plays a cameo antagonist role.
