Celebrity rivalries have been a longstanding feature of the Bollywood industry. Stars have clashed creating publicly, within the realm of Bollywood itself. One of the most notable disputes emerged between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the early 2000s.
Their first collaboration was in the 2004 film “Aitraaz,” alongside Akshay Kumar. However, after the film’s release, rumours of discord between the two began to circulate. The entertainer was a critical success but the fight between the women grabbed maximum limelight. Now again the “Jab We Met” actress is in the news for the same infamous catfight.
Addressing the matter with Mid-Day, Kareena dismissed the rumours, stating, “No, no, no, it’s all nonsense. I was like, ‘What is going on?’ But I think maybe we all had that energy – you know, something, where we were all wanting to prove ourselves.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan also delved into the competitive nature of the industry, where the media often pit actors against one another. She also shed light on the reported catfights prevalent during the ’90s and early 2000s, remarking, “Oh God! The ’90s were full of it (catfights). In the 2000s, everyone was having a catfight. Say anything and it would be labeled a catfight. Today, I mean, you don’t even hear those things, you know. Who knows? It must still be occurring as a thought, but things are a little different and more relaxed now.”
Reflecting on her twenties, Kareena Kapoor Khan noted that looking back, she felt like she was “constantly just rushing,” propelled by a desire to prove herself. She emphasized her aspiration to excel and “be the best.”
Koffee with Karan Show controversy
Moreover in an episode of Koffee with Karan show’s third season, Kareena was seen playfully teasing Priyanka Chopra about her accent. When the host, Karan Johar, inquired about what she would like to ask Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan quipped, “I wonder where Priyanka got her accent from.”
The controversy didn’t end here and got stretched as in another episode of Koffee With Karan season 3, Priyanka Chopra also took a moment to address the comment of Kareena Kapoor Khan about her accent. In response to Kareena’s “query,” Priyanka had replied, “I think it’s the same place that her boyfriend (now husband Saif Ali Khan) gets it from.”
In a reconciliatory move, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor Khan surprisingly made a joint appearance on “Koffee With Karan” during season 6.
We wish their friendship to continue as BFFs as Priyanka has shifted to Hollywood while Kareena Kapoor Khan continues to rock in Bollywood.
