Ratna Pathak Shah calls for substantial roles for Waheeda Rehman, a recipient of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Also slams ageism practices in the Bollywood industry.
In a recent conversation with Film Companion, Ratna Pathak Shah expressed her concerns on ongoing practices that put an expiry on the career of a female actor. Citing examples from the West Ratna ji said, “When I witness the accomplishments of figures like Meryl Streep (74) and Helen Mirren (78), I am inspired to believe that if they can do it, so can I.”
But it is not only the will that matters. Opportunities are most important for an artist. Hence she further pointed out a major loophole in the industry that needs to be rectified and said, “It saddens me that in our own country, Waheeda Rehman doesn’t receive the roles she truly merits. She is an extraordinary woman and an extraordinary actress! All they seem to do is present her with a token award and relegate her to a corner. Is that fair? Instead, give her a substantial role, for goodness’ sake. Let her keep the award.”
It is a big shout by the Hum Do Hamare Do actress that age is just a number for artists and they love to continue working rather than being declared retired against their own will. Times are changing. Bollywood is no more male male-oriented or male-dominated industry.

Clarifying further she added, “We’ve all had to confront the reality of our appearance and the inevitable changes in our bodies. If I choose not to intervene too drastically. I must embrace who I am. What struck me the most, which seems foolish given my mother was Dina Pathak. And it was that I believed acting had an expiration date, especially for women. I thought I’d act until I was considered attractive, and then I’d transition to something else. It’s hard to believe I held that belief, but I did”
We agree with the legendary Ratna Pathak that there are meaty roles that can be offered to these actresses instead of making young actresses take up motherly roles with heavy makeup. Recently, in Shahrukh Khan starter Jawan as well, Ridhi Dogra played a motherly role for young Azaad Rathore.

As per the inside information, Aftab Shivdasani fell prey to a cyber scam after receiving a text message. It urged him to update his Know Your Customer (KYC) details associated with a prominent private sector bank. Upon clicking the link provided in the message, a counterfeit bank page surfaced. It was at this point that the cyber fraudster called Aftab from an unidentified number. And he instructed him to input his mobile number and PIN. Shortly after entering the PIN, Rs 1,49,999 was debited from Aftab’s account.
Following the incident, the Masti actor filed a complaint against the fraud activity. The Bandra Police have initiated legal proceedings against an unidentified individual under Section 420 (pertaining to cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. In addition, other relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act are levied. An investigation is currently underway to address this matter.
